Red Centre Photo Safari

Central Australia is indisputably the spiritual heart of this spectacular continent. Icons such as Uluru and Kata Tjuta, The West MacDonnell Ranges and Kings Canyon are indelible fixtures in the Australian consciousness. It is also the setting for some of the most spectacular photography to be had in the land. Join us on an outback adventure through this magical place to learn about the flora and fauna, geology and Aboriginal culture that is woven through the fabric of the land.

2010 was an incredible year to be in the centre. Record rains produced a wildflower display that hasn’t been seen in years in this arid land. With the La Niña conditions that Australia has been experiencing since spring 2010, these displays should be even more spectacular in 2011. Don’t let this once-in-a-generation opportunity pass you by.

What better way to experience this than by joining a photo safari where dedicated, knowledgeable guides will show you the best of the Red Centre and transform your photography along the way. Let pro photographers Andrew Teakle and Steven Pearce take you on an unforgettable journey through this beautiful country. We begin this journey at Alice Springs, drive through the West MacDonnell Ranges, stay at Kings Canyon, and finish at the spiritual heart of the continent: Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.

This is an authentic outback adventure in a 4WD vehicle. We are limiting numbers to a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 12 people. We will sleep right on location in tents or directly under the stars in a swag. It’s your choice. The photo safari features sensational meals, expert photographic training, wonderful campfire conversation and evening critiques. But don’t worry; even with all this good livin’, we’ll still be up well before dawn for that magical light.

Included in the safari are presentations featuring photographic technique and composition, pro-level workflow, optimising your image in Photoshop, and preparing your photo for the perfect print. Additionally, we will conduct critique sessions, a great deal of hands–on instruction in the field and one-on-one tuition.

Tour Leaders: Andrew Teakle is a professional travel and nature photographer and has been travelling to the Red Centre since 1998. He is the author of 12 books including Australian Journey: Outback, Light on the Southern Land and From Each Eye

Steve Pearce is a professional photographer and tour guide living right in the heart of it: Alice Springs. He is able to monitor conditions and fine tune the itinerary to maximise photo opportunities based on up-to-the-minute observations. His local knowledge will reveal some of the hidden gems missed by the masses.
